Position: Substitute Teacher
Location: Springfield Local Schools
All substitute teachers must be approved for employment by the Board of Education prior to payment for services rendered.
Substitute teachers must have the following paperwork on file:
On-Line Submitted Application, including a resume
Ohio Teaching Certificate/License or Ohio Temporary License
Official or Copy of Official Transcripts
Three Letters of Reference (recent and non-family member)
BCII and FBI Check (Springfield can do for you, will cost $50.00)
It is the responsibility of the substitute teacher to
Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom where assigned.
Establishes and maintains order in the classroom.
Maintains a classroom environment conductive to effective learning.
Establishes a climate that promotes fairness and respect.
Uses positive verbal and non-verbal skills that enhance learning.
Cooperate with school personnel.
Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, or parent/guardian in any public setting.
Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices.
Report to the school office by the substitute teacher starting time
Pick up classroom keys in the office. You will be asked to leave either your driver's license or car keys in the office when you receive building keys. Return keys at the end of the day and pick up your personal property. All classrooms should be locked each time you leave the room
Obtain the regular teacher's materials either from the office or in the classroom
Complete the regular teacher's lesson plans, extra duties and assignments
Notify the principal immediately if lesson plans, seating charts, or other materials needed are not available
Take and record attendance
Leave information for the regular teacher about what was done during the school day
List the name of any student who was uncooperative and explain the situation
Leave the room as it was, including putting away materials and supplies used by students and teacher
Close windows, turn off lights and lock the room when leaving
Report any cases of accidents or illnesses to the office
Never leave students in classroom unattended
Avoid inappropriate behavior, such as eating in front of class or doing personal tasks such as reading, letter writing, bill paying, crafts or hobbies, or talking/texting on cell phones while subbing.
Turn in at the end of the day any item of value that was confiscated from any student; e.g., pager, or cellular telephones. The substitute teacher is responsible for the article until it is turned in to the principal. Report to the office at the end of the day and report any concerns

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
